Dealing With Diaper Rash
One thing that makes diapers horrible to deal with is the diaper rash that it causes your baby to suffer. We try so many different to help our babies to get through the discomfort that is involved with diaper rash, but there are many treatments that you can use to help it heal faster and even prevent it all together.
Products like Desitin are great for healing diaper rash, but it does nothing to prevent it. It also leaves an icky mess that parents get to deal with when it is time to change baby again. I hated that. It is great for healing, but bad for dealing.
I like the brands of diaper rash treatments that are not quite so sticky. They do offer clear gel brands but I find that some babies will develop rashes because of them as these are often filled with perfumes. If your baby has sensitive skin I wouldn’t suggest them.
Baby powder used to be great for helping to prevent diaper rash, (it gave out a good smell too) but if baby pees, you will find an interesting paste waiting for you when you change her. It causes a whole new problem of its own. In reality I find that there is one guaranteed way to deal with diaper rash before it happens.
If you really want to prevent diaper rash from happening in a way that works almost universally and will cause no problems for your baby, let me go back to the past and a remedy that my mom taught me. Every time you change your baby you can swipe a little bit of petroleum jelly over the baby’s sensitive areas that are likely to get wet and you will never deal with diaper rash again.
An added bonus is that it helps when you get a poopie diaper, as the petroleum jelly repels the soil so wiping is a breeze. And it is very cheap and lasts forever. You gotta love the old remedies. I guess there are some things that modern technology just can’t promise.
